UNAMID mandate extended in Sudan

UNAMID has extended its mandate in Sudan until 31 October next year, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2495 at the request of Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdouk.

The Joint Special Representative of the United Nations-African Union Mission (UNAMID), Gebremaya Masailo, confirmed in a press conference in Khartoum on Wednesday, they will continue in providing support to the citizens of Darfur.

During the remaining mandate period, UNAMID would continue its policy of survival and service to the people of Darfur until the last day of its mandate.

The mission’s approach will be a reflection of the UN campaign for peace launched by the Secretary-General this year, Masailo said.
